1 And He went out from thence, and came into His own country; and His disciples follow Him. 2 And when the sabbath day was come, He began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing Him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto Him, that even such mighty works are wrought by His hands? 3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not His sisters here with us? And they were offended at Him. 4 But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. 5 And He could there do no mighty work, save that He laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. Mark 6: 1-5 KJV

Over familiarity sharpens nonchalance, and prevents men and women from partaking from the grace of God upon the life of others. Why is it that people who are closer to the source most times receive less? It is so because they attached little or no regard to it. Nature generally shuts the door of possibilities to the one who disregards the channel of his/her blessings. The easiest way to receive is by acknowledging that you need what the other person has and by submitting yourself to be helped and blessed. The scripture makes it clear in Hebrew 7:7 when it says, without all contradictions the less is blessed of the better. It doesn’t matter the age of the person; so long as the person has what you need, he/she becomes better in that area. It’s by acceptance and submission that you’ll receive the same grace and become a partaker.

Today’s Thought: “Most times what we need is not far from us.”

Jesus couldn’t do more in His hometown because the people were familiar with His background and instead of acknowledging that they need help, they questioned His source, downplayed Him and were jealous that He was God’s choice. You can’t tell God who to use and who not to, when it is close to you is because God likes you. Make the best use of people and don’t allow anything to stop you from receiving from them.

Keynote: Over familiarity shuts the door of possibilities and in some cases introduces jealousy and hatred.

Counsel: Be happy for people’s success.  Do not trivialize the achievement and capabilities of others and never be too familiar with people.

Prayer: I will not miss my next level breakthrough because of hatred, jealousy and looking at someone as not good enough or fit to bless me in Jesus’ name. Help me Lord to appreciate Your help in the life of other people, amen. Receive the grace to become a partaker and a benefactor of God’s help in the life of others.
