And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to the Lord and weep sore. And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your handmaid, and remember me, and not forget Your handmaid, but will give to Your handmaid a man child, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head. 1Samuel 1:10-11 KJV

Selfishness is one of the reasons why God does not release the blessing. Because whenever God blesses a man He expects the man to be a blessing to those around him. That is why when you see a man that is hardened to the genuine needs of others his/her source of blessing is questionable. The blessing of God rubs off on others, you might be the direct recipient but others enjoy the fruits through you. God does not bless you for you only. Here is the situation of Hannah who has been praying long before now, but the moment her prayer accommodated God and made room for service to others, the blessing of a child was released.

God answers requests that will bless others and promote His will on the earth quickly. Maybe it’s time you re-examine your requests and ambitions. What you’re longing after, are they for self-glorification or for the magnification of God? Are you trying to prove a point to someone? Let God be the reason for everything. Service to God and humanity is what gets the attention of God the most.

A life where you’re the centre will matter little, but a life that is possessed by God will never run out of supplies. Moses was not a good communicator, Jacob was a supplanter, and David was only a shepherd boy, but they showed great interest in protecting the image of God and carried a heart for the people’s wellbeing. When others are involved God expands the blessing but when it’s all about you, limitations are bound to take place. Abraham before the blessing was already looking after Lot, his brother’s son. Let your life be a blessing to others.

Prayer of the Day: My God put in me a heart for people, to always consider those around me and may the Lord empower me to be a blessing with what He has given to me in Jesus’ name, amen. It is well with me.
